Newcastle United are set to take action after a young club mascot was left alone on the pitch before Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Liverpool.
The girl had walked out with the players and lined up as they shook hands with Liverpool, but footage shared on TikTok shows her standing alone while the Newcastle players went to hand over their track jackets. A Liverpool staff member noticed her and pointed her toward the dugout, but she waited near the center circle while the Liverpool mascots played with captain Virgil van Dijk.
It’s unclear what happened immediately after, though TV footage later shows her leaving the field with the Liverpool mascots.
The Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) reported the incident to the club. A spokesperson said, “They are aware, it is being addressed, and action is being taken.”
Newcastle played the game without captain Bruno Guimaraes, who missed out after an ankle injury sustained in the Champions League win over PSV Eindhoven last month.
