James Milner has become the all-time appearance record holder in the Premier League after playing his 654th match for Brighton & Hove Albion against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The 40-year-old midfielder moved past Gareth Barry’s long-standing record. Milner made his top-flight debut for Leeds United in 2002 at just 16 and has also played for Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Milner has won three league titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup during his career. Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler described him as a “role model on and off the pitch.”
