West Ham have halted plans for striker Callum Wilson to leave the club this month, putting talks over a contract termination on hold. Wilson, whose deal runs until the summer, had been in advanced discussions to leave but will now stay at the London Stadium until the end of the season.
The decision comes after Wilson scored a last-minute winner against Tottenham in the London derby and amid West Ham’s ongoing battle to stay in the Premier League. The club decided it would be counterproductive to let him go while in need of goals, despite the arrival of new forwards Pablo Felipe and Tati Castellanos limiting his first-team opportunities.
West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo previously acknowledged the discussions but stressed Wilson remains an important squad member who can contribute for the remainder of the campaign.
