WBA Champion Davis Wanted by Police after Arrest Warrant Issued

Police in Miami have issued an arrest warrant for boxing champion Gervonta Davis over an alleged domestic violence incident.

The 31-year-old American boxer is wanted on charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping. The case relates to an incident that is said to have happened in October. Police say they are working with the US Marshals to find and arrest him.

According to police, Davis is accused of using force to stop a woman from leaving and trying to move her against her will. Officers say the victim told them Davis grabbed her by the hair and throat and tried to force her to go with him. The woman said they had been in a relationship for about five months.

Police also said they reviewed security camera footage that supports key parts of the woman’s account.

The arrest warrant comes after Davis’ former girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, filed a civil lawsuit against him in October. In the lawsuit, she accused him of several offences, including battery and kidnapping, and is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. She has also asked for a jury trial.

Because of the lawsuit, Davis was pulled from a planned exhibition boxing match against Jake Paul that was due to take place in Miami in November.

This is not the first time Davis has faced legal trouble. A domestic violence case involving another former partner was dropped six months ago. He was also arrested on similar charges in 2020 and 2022.

In addition, Davis spent 44 days in jail in 2023 after breaking the rules of a house arrest sentence linked to a hit-and-run case in Baltimore in 2020.
