Shaqueel van Persie scored his first senior goals in dramatic fashion, but it was not enough to prevent Feyenoord, managed by his father Robin van Persie, from suffering a late derby defeat to Sparta Rotterdam.
Feyenoord were 2-0 down after goals from Joshua Kitolano and Mitchell van Bergen before Robin van Persie brought on his 19-year-old son just after the hour mark. Hwang In-beom quickly pulled one back, but Shunsuke Mito soon restored Sparta’s two-goal lead.
In the final minutes, Van Persie Jr sparked a comeback, scoring twice – including an impressive overhead kick – to make it 3-3. However, Kitolano struck again deep into stoppage time to seal a 4-3 win for Sparta.
Despite the loss, Feyenoord remain second in the Eredivisie, 16 points behind leaders PSV.
