Szoboszlai Says Salah’s Future Depends on Manager and Club

Dominik Szoboszlai says Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool is a decision for the manager and the club.

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai says he stayed in close contact with Mohamed Salah during the Africa Cup of Nations, speaking to him almost every day, but would not comment on the Egyptian forward’s future at the club.

Salah’s future has been uncertain after he said his relationship with manager Arne Slot had broken down. However, Szoboszlai said any decision about Salah’s future is down to the club and the manager.

“That’s between him, the manager and the club,” Szoboszlai said. “He’ll come back and then we keep going.”

Slot recently said he is happy to have Salah back, and Liverpool’s draw with Burnley showed how much they missed him, despite creating many chances. Szoboszlai admitted Liverpool played well but struggled to finish, including missing a penalty himself.

Szoboszlai also responded to criticism after a mistake against Barnsley in the FA Cup, saying it was not disrespectful and that he would play the same way against any opponent.

Despite missing two penalties recently, the Hungary midfielder said he remains confident and is happy to take penalties when Salah is not on the pitch. He added that Salah remains Liverpool’s first-choice penalty taker when available.

Szoboszlai also revealed talks are ongoing over a new Liverpool contract, with his current deal running until 2028.
