The Seattle Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers 13-3 to win the NFC West and finish top of the NFC, earning a first-round bye and home advantage throughout the play-offs. Zach Charbonnet scored the only touchdown, while Jason Myers added two field goals in a win built on a strong defensive display.
The victory was Seattle’s seventh straight win, taking their record to 14-3. Quarterback Sam Darnold praised the defence for carrying the team, while Kenneth Walker III and Charbonnet led the running game with solid performances.
The loss ended the 49ers’ six-game winning streak and leaves them with a 12-5 record, meaning they will have to play away from home in the wildcard round.
Elsewhere, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers kept their play-off hopes alive with a narrow 16-14 win over the Carolina Panthers. Carolina scored late through Jalen Coker, but the Buccaneers held on.
Both teams now sit at 8-9 and must wait for the result between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints to find out who makes the play-offs.
