San Francisco 49ers Legend Brodie Dies at 90

John Brodie, the 49ers quarterback and 1970 NFL MVP, has passed away at 90. Brodie spent all 17 NFL seasons with San Francisco, throwing 31,548 passing yards and 214 touchdowns, ranking him among the franchise’s all-time leaders.

 His number 12 jersey was retired after he retired in 1973, and he led the team to the NFC Championship gamesin 1970 and 1971.

Brodie was inducted into the 49ers Hall of Fame in 2009 and also played golf, appearing twice at the US Open and later joining the senior PGA Tour, as well as working as a football and golf commentator for NBC.

The 49ers expressed condolences to Brodie’s wife Sue and his family, calling him “one of the franchise’s all-time great players.”
