Neymar has agreed to extend his contract with Santos until the end of 2026, according to a source close to the talks.
On Wednesday, Santos, the club made famous by Pele, shared a teaser video on social media showing their Vila Belmiro stadium with the date 31 December 2026 and the message “The time is coming”. The post did not mention Neymar directly, even though his previous deal expired at midnight on 31 December.
Neymar’s first season back at Santos was badly affected by injuries, but the 33-year-old still managed to score four goals. His goals helped Santos win their final three matches and avoid relegation on the last day of the season in December.
After the season ended, Neymar had surgery on a damaged meniscus in his left knee. Santos confirmed on 22 December that the operation, carried out by Brazil’s national team doctor, was successful.
The former Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Hilal star is Brazil’s all-time top scorer with 79 goals, two more than Pele. He has not played for Brazil since October 2023, when he picked up the knee injury against Uruguay.
