Manchester City are close to signing USA midfielder Sam Coffey from Portland Thorns. The Women’s Super League leaders are expected to pay around $800,000 (£600,000) for the 27-year-old.
Coffey has been on City’s radar for several months, and the clubs have now agreed terms. She has also been given permission to travel to England to complete the move.
Widely seen as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, Coffey has made 42 appearances for the United States and nearly 100 games for Portland Thorns during her time with the club.
