Luke Littler claimed the inaugural Saudi Arabia Darts Masters title with an impressive 8-5 win over Michael van Gerwen in the final.
The 18-year-old from Warrington raced into a 4-0 lead, setting the tone for the match, and despite Van Gerwen closing the gap to 5-4, Littler held on to secure victory. Littler averaged 104.84 and had a higher checkout rate than the Dutch star.
“It’s amazing to be the first winner here in Saudi Arabia,” Littler said, praising the turnout and his performance. Van Gerwen acknowledged Littler’s strong start made it tough to mount a comeback.
The two-day event, part of the World Series of Darts, was held at Riyadh’s 1,000-capacity Global Theater and offered a $200,000 bonus for a nine-darter, which no player achieved.
