Chelsea are in talks to sign Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet in the January transfer window. The 20-year-old France U21 international has shown interest, but Rennes are asking over £60m, and other clubs are also monitoring him.
The move comes as Chelsea advance plans to strengthen their defence earlier than planned after Levi Colwill’s pre-season knee injury. Alternatives being considered include Como’s Jacabo Ramon and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi, both also attracting top-club interest.
Chelsea remain focused on signing a ball-playing centre-back while assessing the futures of Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo this summer.
