Defending champions Barcelona cruised into the Spanish Super Cup final after a big win over Athletic Club in Saudi Arabia.
Barcelona scored four goals in just 16 minutes before half-time, effectively ending the match early. This also made them the first team ever to score four goals in the first half of a Spanish Super Cup semi-final.
Ferran Torres scored first from close range, followed by a powerful shot into the top corner from Fermin Lopez. Roony Bardghji then added another goal when his shot slipped past Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon, and Raphinha made it 4-0 before half-time with a shot into the roof of the net.
Raphinha scored again shortly after the break to make it 5-0, with the goalkeeper unable to stop it.
Barcelona stayed in complete control for the rest of the match, extending their winning run to nine games in a row in all competitions. Coached by Hansi Flick, they will now play either Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid in the final, depending on the result of Thursday’s match.
The final will be held on Sunday in Jeddah. The tournament will continue to be played in Saudi Arabia until 2029 after an agreement between the Spanish Football Federation and Saudi officials.
