Ethan Nwaneri scored on his Marseille debut just a day after joining on loan from Arsenal as Roberto de Zerbi’s team beat Lens in Ligue 1.
The 18-year-old midfielder joined Marseille for the rest of the season after struggling for Premier League starts this year. He had signed a new contract with Arsenal until 2030 but lost game time after the club signed Noni Madueke (£48.5m) and Eberechi Eze (£67m).
Nwaneri doubled Marseille’s lead in the 13th minute with a curled left-footed shot from inside the box. Algeria striker Amine Gouiri opened the scoring in the third minute and added a third in the 75th. Lens’ 19-year-old substitute Rayan Fofana scored late to make it 3-1.
The win puts Marseille in third place, five points behind second-place Lens and seven behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
