Oval Invincibles will be known as MI London from next season after the owners of the Mumbai Indians invested in the team. Reliance Industries, which owns the IPL giants, purchased a 49% stake in the franchise from the ECB for around £60m earlier this year, and the deal has now officially gone through.
The new name connects the team to Reliance’s global cricket network, which already includes MI Cape Town, MI Emirates, and MI New York. MI London becomes the first of these teams to receive a full rebrand, while the others retain their original names.
Surrey, who still own 51% of the franchise, say the rebrand will help expand the fanbase and increase commercial value, supporting long-term development of cricket in the area. Oval Invincibles enjoyed great success in The Hundred, winning women’s titles in 2021 and 2022 and men’s titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The name change comes as The Hundred prepares to switch to an auction system for player recruitment, which could lead to major squad changes. Meanwhile, Reliance’s cricket teams worldwide have a strong track record, with Mumbai Indians claiming five IPL titles and their women's team and overseas sides also achieving significant success.
Reliance founder Nita Ambani welcomed MI London to the “One Family,” celebrating the expansion of the MI brand.
