Lando Norris says he’s excited to switch off for a bit and enjoy some normal days after a year where he achieved his dream of becoming Formula 1 World Champion.
The McLaren driver celebrated his title in Abu Dhabi from Sunday night into Monday morning, and then sat down with BBC Sport at his hotel on Yas Island to take everything in. Norris was relaxed and joking around as he talked about his journey.
He will now head to the McLaren factory to review the season and do some simulator work as he starts thinking about next year. He also has more events coming up this week, including picking up his official championship trophy at a ceremony in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and then the McLaren Christmas party in London.
After that, he wants some quiet time.
Norris said he hopes to “forget this season a bit,” switch off from Formula 1, and just live normally for a few days—play golf, relax, and enjoy everyday life.
The 26-year-old says the reality of becoming “world champ” is still sinking in. Even simple moments, like someone congratulating him by the pool, feel surreal and remind him of how big an achievement this is.
