A man from Liverpool has been charged after Bournemouth footballer Antoine Semenyo was racially abused during a match at Anfield.
The Ghana international reported the abuse to the referees during Bournemouth’s game against Liverpool on 15 August, and the match was briefly stopped in the 29th minute.
Mark Mogan, 47, from Dovecot, has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence. Police said a man was identified and removed from the stadium at the time.
The match later continued, with Liverpool winning 4–2 in their Premier League opener.
Mr Mogan has been given conditional bail and is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on 22 December, according to Merseyside Police.
