Germany to Host Women’s Euro 2029 as England go for Three in a Row

0

Germany has officially been picked to host the 2029 Women’s European Championship. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said Germany beat out bids from Poland and a joint Denmark–Sweden bid, calling it “heartbreaking” that only one could win before revealing Germany as the host.

The tournament will feature 16 teams and take place in eight German cities, including Munich, Dortmund, Cologne and Frankfurt. Portugal and Italy had originally submitted bids too, but pulled out to focus on trying to host future men’s tournaments.

In the final vote, Germany won comfortably with 15 votes, while Denmark–Sweden got two and Poland didn’t receive any. This will be the third time Germany hosts the Women’s Euros — they did it in 1989 and 2001, and won both times.

DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said a lot of hard work went into the bid and thanked everyone who supported it.

England, who won Euro 2025 after beating Spain on penalties, will be aiming for a third straight European title in 2029. Only Germany has ever achieved such a streak, winning six in a row between 1995 and 2013.
