Lyle Foster was the hero as South Africa narrowly beat Angola 2-1 in Marrakesh in their Group B opener at AFCON 2025.
South Africa took the lead midway through the first half when Oswin Appollis capitalised on a loose ball and slotted it into the bottom left corner. Angola responded strongly and equalised 10 minutes before halftime, with Show flicking home Fredy’s free-kick.
The winner came in the 79th minute when Burnley striker Foster curled a brilliant shot from the edge of the box to secure the victory. Foster had previously seen a potential second goal ruled out for offside, but his late strike ensured South Africa continued their unbeaten record against Angola at the tournament.
South Africa now head to Agadir to face Egypt in their next Group B game, while Angola take on Zimbabwe in Marrakesh.
