Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed a major injury setback ahead of this weekend’s Premier League match against Newcastle United.
Maresca said teenage forward Estevao will miss the game after picking up a muscle injury. The 18-year-old came on as a substitute in Chelsea’s recent match against Everton but was not included in the squad for Tuesday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Cardiff City.
Since joining Chelsea, Estevao has impressed, scoring five goals and providing one assist in 21 appearances. His absence is a blow for the team as they prepare for a tough away match.
Maresca described the issue as a small muscle problem but said Estevao will definitely not be available to face Newcastle, with his return date still uncertain.
Chelsea will be hoping to avoid defeat at the weekend as they look to stay inside the Premier League’s top four.
