Chelsea icon, Claude Makelele, has expressed doubts over the possibility of his former club winning the Premier League title this season.
The Frenchman, however, believes the Blues could win the Champions League if they find themselves in the semi finals in later stages.
Chelsea defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 away in the Premier League last weekend but drew 2-2 with Qarabag in Baku in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Chelsea sit twelfth position in the Champions League log with seven points after four games and are seventh in the Premier League table after 10 games.
“Winning the Premier League, I don’t know. But I think this season they will be there in the top four and fighting for the title,” the former Real Madrid defensive midfielder told Metro.
Makelele, while pointing out that the Champions League is a different competition to the English top flight league, added, “Chelsea need to learn again and try to make sure they get themselves into the quarter-final, semi-final” of the Europe elite’s competition.
“I think if they are there, I think they have a possibility for winning because they demonstrated in America[Fifa Club World Cup] that they can beat Paris Saint-Germain in a good way.
“They show how to play, how to fight, how to score, and this is good. This is the way we want to see Chelsea.”
Chelsea welcome Wolves at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday looking to continue in their winning ways in the PL.
