Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said Viktor Gyokeres is a doubt for their Premier League trip to Chelsea this weekend.
Gyokeres last played for the Gunners at the start of November against Burnley. The Swedish striker has now missed the last four fixtures.
With Kai Havertz also recovering from a knee injury that has kept him out since the opening weekend of the season, Mikel Merino has been tasked with leading Arsenal’s attack.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, when Arteta was asked if Gyokeres and Havertz’s scan results had come back clear, he replied: “Not yet, but they are getting closer and closer. We are very positive with both of them and let’s see.”
There was one fresh concern with Leandro Trossard, who was forced off in the first half against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Arteta remains hopeful he can still have a role to play on Sunday.
He added: “There is another test today. We have to see how he’s feeling. It doesn’t look much. There is a potential chance [he could be available for Chelsea].”
