Late Drama & Resilience Are Paying Off.
Liverpool continue to pull off wins late in games. Their 95th-minute penalty vs Burnley (via Salah) keeps their perfect start alive, and marks a Premier League record: four consecutive matches with a winning goal in the final ten minutes.
Similarly, Brentford’s injury-time equaliser vs Chelsea underlines that persistence (and set-piece / throw-in plays) remain vital.
Arsenal looked sharp vs Nottingham Forest despite missing key players. Zubimendi’s brace + Gyokeres ripping through a shaky Forest defence showed good squad depth, and ability to maintain dominance even when not at full strength.
The Ange Postecoglou effect at Nottingham Forest: Starting his reign in a difficult fixture vs Arsenal, but Forest seem to be in transition, and the loss was somewhat expected. How fast he gets them organised will be something to watch.
Manchester City looked more like the City we’re used to in their 3-0 over Manchester United. Haaland scoring twice helped, but more notably City imposing themselves tactically (pressing, exploiting United’s defensive weak spots) stood out. United, on the other hand, still have glaring defensive issues and seem prone to being undone by transitions.
Matchweek 4 reinforced that the 2025/26 Premier League is likely to be tight at the top: clubs with depth and mental toughness are getting small edges, late goals are becoming more common, and defensive organisation is as crucial as ever.
