Agyemang Off Mark as Brighton Overcome Everton

Michelle Agyemang scored her first Women's Super League goal of the season as Brighton secured a narrow win over Everton.

The 19-year-old striker, on loan from Arsenal, bundled the ball in from close range after brilliant work from Fran Kirby to create the 26th-minute chance.

While she starred for England during the Euros over the summer, Agyemang had not netted in the WSL since April - also against Everton - but her first of the campaign was enough to earn the Seagulls all three points.

The hosts dominated for much of the first 45 minutes but with things not clicking in the final third, the first chance fell to Everton.

Maz Pacheco's pull-back found Rosa van Gool but she shot tamely at goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

A minute later, Brighton were in front as Kirby won the ball with a superb tackle inside the Everton half, overlapped Kiko Seike and clipped a lovely cross to the far post.

Winger Rosa Kafaji got into a tangle as she came in to meet it but did enough to put the ball back into the six-yard box, where Agyemang was waiting to chest down and scramble home.

Although, the final ball deserted Brighton on numerous occasions, they still had chances to add to their lead with Seike and Kirby both failing to really test Everton keeper Emily Ramsey when well placed.

And with just one goal in it, the visitors sensed the chance to snatch an equaliser as the home side's nerves grew late on.

However, Brian Sorensen's side were unable to create a chance of note and Brighton held on to make it back-to-back league wins.
