Dolphins star Hill detained by police before game

 


Miami Dolphins say wide receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by police before being released prior to their season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

After the incident, the 30-year-old made his way to the Hard Rock Stadium and will be available to play against the Jaguars.

"This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police," said a Dolphins statement, external

"He has since been released. 

"Several team-mates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game."

A video on ESPN showed Hill being laid on the ground and handcuffed by police. 

His agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN, external that it was a "heartbreaking situation" but that Hill was OK and would play for the Dolphins.

He said: "How things escalated into the situation they were in - handcuffs and being held on the ground by police - is mind-boggling to me.

I'm deeply concerned by that, very troubled. We will be looking into it."

He added: "This is crazy, I've never seen anything like it."

Miami Police have yet to comment.
