England's Stones doubtful to face Serbia with stomach bug

John Stones missed England train this morning due to illness. The remaining 25 players were on the grass.

Sky Sports News has been told that his absence is not connected with his ankle injury.

Dean Henderson later told Sky Sports News that Stones has a sickness bug, and has been confined to his room.

The FA didn't give any details earlier, saying just that Stones was "ill" and missed training as a result.

The FA protocols kick in in these circumstances, with players quarantined to their bedrooms to try to avoid illnesses spreading.

He will be closely monitored by the FA medical staff. Stones has only played 90 minutes of football once in the last three months.

He was desperate for a straightforward build up to the tournament, with maximum training and game time.

Neither of those things has happened. He is a doubt for Sunday night's opener against Serbia.

Even if he can start the game, it is unlikely he will be able to complete the full 90.
