Adam Lallana has announced he is leaving Brighton at the end of the season.
Lallana, who turned 36 last Friday, is not retiring but has taken the decision not to extend his stay at the Amex Stadium following four seasons at the club.
"It's very sad, I wish he could play another season with us," manager Roberto de Zerbi said.
"It's his decision and he is a key player for me. I have an incredible relationship with him and wish I could have worked with him when he was younger. He's a good player still but incredible when he was younger."
The former England international, who spent seven years at Liverpool before joining the Seagulls, has made only 12 Premier League starts this season with a further 12 appearances coming off bench.
Lallana has made 290 career Premier League appearances.
Danny Welbeck and James Milner are both expected to stay while Ansu Fati is set to return to Barcelona at the end of his season-long loan.
