Southampton boss thumbs up Aribo’s display

Southampton manager Russell Martin has heaped plaudits on Joe Aribo for his impressive displays in recent outings for the Saints.

The Nigerian has featured from the start in Southampton’s last five Sky Bet Championship games.

The midfielder has also played a pivotal role in helping the South Coast club maintain their push for promotion to the Premier League.

Martin’s side, who currently occupy fourth position on the table, are unbeaten in their last four games.

“He has been excellent. He hasn’t played a huge amount of minutes since he came back from the AFCON but he has been excellent,” the gaffer told the club’s official website.

“It was a huge amount of minutes for him in the last few games. Joe is a top player. It took him a while when he got back because he hadn’t played for three or four weeks at AFCON. He had a brilliant tournament with some fantastic experiences, but he came back and took a while to get back up to speed.”

Aribo has scored three goals in 31 league games for Southampton this season.
