Fuente extends contract as Spain coach until 2026

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Thursday confirmed that they have extended the contract of Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente until after the 2026 World Cup finals.

De la Fuente's previous deal lasted until the end of this summer's European Championships, meaning the 62-year-old coach will in charge for another two years.

The former Spain Under-21 coach replaced Luis Enrique after Spain's disappointing campaign in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and has so far led Spain to success in the 2023 Nations League, with a win on penalties against Croatia.

Spain also qualified with few problems for the European Championships, with just a single defeat in Scotland to blot their copy book.

De la Fuente's 10 games in charge have seen his side score 27 goals and concede just six, while he has also continued Luis Enrique's policy of giving a chance to young players, such as FC Barcelona's Yamine Lamal.
