Super Eagles facing striker crisis ahead of Equatorial Guinea clash at the 2023 AFCON

Nigeria has suffered another injury blow ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, with Sadiq Umar pulling out of the tournament which begins on Saturday.

Umar has picked up a knee injury and is expected to miss at least three weeks of action.

The Real Sociedad striker has now flown back to Spain, where he will be looked after by the LaLiga club’s medics.

His departure leaves Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, with Victor Osimhen as the only fit striker in camp.

Terem Moffi is expected to join up with the squad as replacement for the injured Victor Boniface, who suffered a groin injury ahead of the tournament.

Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, did not even make it into the final squad because of injury.
