Benfica deny holding Neves talks with Man Utd

Benfica have denied they have held talks with Manchester United about selling Joao Neves to Old Trafford.

Reports emerged over the weekend stating United were speaking to the Portuguese club about a deal for Neves.

And a statement on Tuesday says: “Benfica denies the existence of any right of first refusal over its player Joao Neves.

“Under no circumstances has Benfica started talks with Manchester United or any other club about this player from their academy – nor does it intend to do so – so any information that points in the other direction is false.”

The 19-year-old midfielder Neves is highly regarded - he already has three caps for Portugal’s first team.
