Guardiola speaks on Chelsea’s midfielder

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has revealed the conversation he had with Cole Palmer, before the player signed for Chelsea in the summer.

Palmer completed a £42.5 million transfer to City’s Premier League rivals on deadline day.

He left City after scoring goals in the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup finals.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, Palmer has contributed three goals and four assists in his first 10 games.

Guardiola has now said he tried to keep Palmer by informing him that Riyad Mahrez would soon be leaving.

“Cole arrived and accepted some processes and then after one or two years said ‘No, I don’t want to play here, I am not going to play.’ But I said ‘Riyad [Mahrez] is leaving, you are going to get a chance here,’ and he said ‘No, I am not going to play here, I want to leave,’ so I said ‘OK, leave,’” Guardiola explained.
