Fox completes QPR deal

Morgan Fox has joined QPR after leaving Stoke City, agreeing a two-year deal at Loftus Road.

The 29-year-old left-sided defender brings a wealth of Championship experience, having made more than 200 appearances in the division while with Charlton, Sheffield Wednesday and the Potters.

Following three years at the bet365 Stadium, Fox is looking forward to a new chapter of his career with QPR.

“It feels really good to be here, I’m excited,” he said.

Fox recently met R’s gaffer Gareth Ainsworth at the club’s Heston training facility to discuss the potential move, and he explained: “I came down here to see this amazing facility, and that is obviously a massive pull for players, to work in a place like this every day.

“It’s pretty special. You can tell the direction the club is going in. The manager explained his plans for the team and for me personally, and it is an exciting opportunity.

“I will be looking to use my experience to push this squad forward.”

While Fox has spent much of his career at left-back, he has been used more recently in a central-defensive role and he said: “I have moved into left centre-back and have also played at left wing-back. I think it is good to be quite versatile and play different positions.”

With the new season less than two weeks away, Fox is eager to get going in the blue and white hoops, and he added: “The gaffer wants a tight-knit group, and it is a talented, young squad here. We will be looking to push on after what happened last season.”

Following the arrivals of Paul Smyth, Ziyad Larkeche and Asmir Begović, Ainsworth is delighted to complete his fourth summer signing, saying: “I’m really pleased with this one.

“I’ve said from the moment I came in that experience is lacking a little bit in this squad, we have got some fantastic young talent here but it needs some leadership and Morgan definitely brings that.

“He is a warrior and brings much-needed experience.

“Morgan is only 29 and there is no reason why he can’t have a really good stint here, and he brings healthy competition to that backline.”
