UCL: Carragher gives two conditions for De Bruyne to be on same level with Xavi, Iniesta, Modric

 

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has given two conditions for Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne to be on the same level with the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Luka Modric.

De Bruyne put in a fascinating performance as Man City drew 1-1 with Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal tie on Tuesday.

The Belgian scored the equalizer for Man City to cancel Vinicius’ goal.

His goal against Madrid took his tally for the season to 10 goals and 27 assists in 44 games across competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Speaking to CBS Sports Golazo, Carragher said that De Bruyne would be at par with the likes of Xavi, Iniesta and Modric if he wins the Champions League and be the man who wins it for Manchester City.

Carragher said, “That is what the greatest players do; they’ve those moments. If he [De Bruyne] could be the man who takes them to the Champions League, the treble, it elevates him.

“If they get to the final, I think we are not just talking about him being one of the best midfield players of his generation but one of the best midfield players we have ever seen.

“He just needs that Champions League, and he needs to be the man who wins it for them. Then he can go right up there with Iniesta, Xavi, Modric.”
