Hayes confident of Bright winning World Cup fitness battle

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes is confident that defender Millie Bright will be fit to play for England at this summer's Women's World Cup finals in Australia.

Bright has been out with a knee injury sustained in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Lyon.

Although the England defender remains sidelined, Hayes is optimistic Bright may make the upcoming World Cup in the summer.

The Chelsea boss said: "Millie's still on crutches. I think she'll be okay for this summer's World Cup but when you have surgery, the reality is she's had her knee cleaned out and sometimes you give or take a week or two.

"It might be a little bit earlier, it might be a little bit later, so I expect Millie to make the World Cup, but there's no guarantees of anything in life.
