Seven Nigerian players fighting against relegation in Premier League

With the 2022/23 English Premier League season reaching the home stretch, DAILY POST presents seven Nigerian players fighting for survival with their respective clubs.

JOE ARIBO, PAUL ONUACHU (SOUTHAMPTON)

The Saints occupy the last position on the Premier League table and need to produce something special in their remaining six games to escape the drop.

Ruben Selles’ side nearly picked a valuable win at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal on Friday night but was held to a 3-3 draw.

A relegation fight was not what Joe Aribo bargained for when he moved to the South Coast from Scottish Premiership club, Glasgow Rangers last summer.

Paul Onuachu was brought in on a rescue mission in January but has so far failed in that mission.

WILFRED NDIDI, KELECHI IHEANACHO (LEICESTER CITY)

Not many would have expected Leicester City to be involved in a relegation fight at least going by the club’s impressive performance in the Premier League in recent seasons.

The Foxes sit in 19th position with 25 points from 31 games.

Starting from Saturday’s (today) clash against Wolverhampton Wanders at the King Power Stadium, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have a chance to help their club push for survival and maintain their top-flight status.

TAIWO AWONIYI, EMMANUEL DENNIS (NOTTINGHAM FOREST)

Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis linked up with Nottingham Forest last summer but it has been a tough ride for the duo.

It’s the second consecutive season Dennis will be involved in a relegation fight with his club.

The versatile forward was part of the Watford squad that was relegated to the Sky Bet Championship last season.

Awoniyi recently returned to action for the Tricky Trees after spending around three months on the sidelines due to a groin injury.

ALEX IWOBI ( EVERTON)

The Toffees barely escaped the drop last season and are in for the fight once again this term.

Alex Iwobi played a crucial role in their escape last season and is already doing the same this time around.

The winger has contributed one goal and seven assists in 31 league outings.

Everton currently occupies the 17th position with 27 points from 31 matches.
