Europa League: Arteta speaks on leaving Arsenal for Real Madrid

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has responded to speculations linking him with the Real Madrid job.

Arteta, speaking to the media on Wednesday ahead of their Europa League clash against Sporting, insisted he is “fully focused” on the Premier League club.

The Gunners are top of the league having won 20 of their first 26 fixtures.

Arteta left his role as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City to join Arsenal in December 2019.

The Gunners won the FA Cup in the Spaniard’s first season in the club but only finished eighth in his first full season, leading to calls for him to be sacked.

Arteta survived the dark period and a late collapse last season to turn the team into title contenders this term..

Real Madrid have taken note of and are reportedly interested in appointing Arteta as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor.

When asked about the speculation, Arteta said: “Managers and players can’t control what is written by the press.

“What I can tell is that I’m fully focused on what I’m doing here and extremely proud and grateful to do what I’m doing in this football club. That’s it.”
