Newcastle chief Staveley: Our fans at Wembley left me in awe

Newcastle chief Amanda Staveley has stated the club will eventually win every major trophy.

The Magpies were denied the Carabao Cup on Sunday, losing to Manchester United at Wembley.

Despite the 2-0 loss at the weekend, having had an entire week to prepare for the game unlike their opponents, Staveley was bullish about her team's chances of future success.

She told talkSPORT: "I was just so proud of all of the fans, everybody, and I was crying and my son was crying, we were all crying.

“What was amazing at two-nil down, flags going, there was a passion in everybody. Everybody has taken us on this journey. This is all about the amazing fans that have taken us on this journey, and we're just honoured and humbled and feel very privileged to help run Newcastle United.

“I was just in awe, I knew it would be amazing. I'm sorry, I really feel bad because I so wanted a win because I wanted them to have some silverware. But we'll get there, but the lads played really well. It was a tough game, it was tough luck, and I'm proud of all of the fans and hugely proud of everybody."
