EPL: Graham Potter gives verdict on Enzo Fernandez’s first game for Chelsea

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has passed his verdict on Enzo Fernandez after the Argentina international made his debut for the Blues in their 0-0 draw in the Premier League against Fulham on Friday.

The English boss appeared to be satisfied with the Argentine’s performance in Chelsea’s goalless draw against their London rivals and believes he will keep getting better as he adapts to the team.

Fernandez forced his way out of Benfica on the last day of the January transfer window and completed a record £106 million switch move to Stamford Bridge.

The World Cup winner only had two training sessions with the west London club but was named in Potter’s starting XI for Friday night’s west London derby and the 22-year-old gave an assured display.

But Potter was delighted with what he saw from the recruit – particularly after so little time on the training pitch.

“Really good considering he’s not been in the country very long and he doesn’t know us and we don’t know him so well in terms of working daily,” Potter said when asked to rate the former Benfica star’s performance in his first game for the Blues.

“But I think you could see flashes of his quality, his personality is there, and he’ll get better and better the more we work with him. I thought he handled himself magnificently.

“Tough game, but you could see his quality, you could see what he’ll bring to the team.

“It’s not easy for him…”
