Fulham boss Marco Silva hits out at Southampton tactics

Fulham boss Marco Silva says victory over Southampton yesterday was deserved.

The Cottagers ran out 2-1 winners, despite a last-minute penalty save by Gavin Bazunu to deny Aleksander Mitrovic, and climb to seventh in the Premier League.

But Silva, who admitted it was a big three points for his team in a challenging contest, was not necessarily impressed by Saints from a footballing standpoint.

“A low/mid-block every time. Five at the back, four in midfield, waiting for mistakes," he said of Saints.

"We were the only team that wanted to win the game. It's a big three points for us from a tough match.

“We expected a tough match, we know their capacity and they have good players who can punish you. But we have finished an amazing 2022 for us," he added.

“A year that has been special for us and our fans. I believe we deserved the three points, even if it wasn't our best performance. It was our moment to have a late goal to decide the game."
