Watford goalkeeper Bachmann: Man Utd was very, very close

Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann admits that he was very close to joining Manchester United in the summer.

The shot stopper was linked to the no.2 job for Erik ten Hag, but United ultimately chose to sign Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United as David De Gea's backup instead.

United needed an experienced backup keeper in the summer, after Dean Henderson left for Nottingham Forest on loan.

Bachmann told German outlet Heute: "It was very, very, very close.

“Really very, very close.

“In the end, I'm glad things turned out the way they are.

“The new coach really wanted to keep me.

“I'm happy. I'm a top performer at Watford now."
