Transfer: Klopp names who helped Liverpool sign Gakpo ahead of Man United

Jurgen Klopp has hailed Liverpool’s sporting director, Julian Ward for the successful signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV.

Liverpool confirmed during the week they have signed Gakpo from PSV for around £37million.

All the while Manchester United had chased the player and were hoping he would arrive as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement at Old Trafford.

But shockingly, the 23-year-old headed to Anfield instead to join United’s arch-rivals who successfully hijacked the transfer.

And Klopp was quick to thank Ward for orchestrating the transfer.

“It really is great news for us that we have been able to do it and I have to say it has been a fantastic job by everyone involved, especially Julian,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“The work that has gone into this has been really impressive and in the end we have managed to sign a player who we have known about for quite some time and who we believe will have a really bright future with us.”
