Qatar 2022: Michael Owen singles out two players after Argentina’s 4-2 win over France

 


Former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen has singled out Argentina captain, Lionel Messi and France forward Kylian Mbappe for special praise following both teams’ 2022 FIFA World Cup final tie on Sunday.

Argentina defeated France 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out to win the World Cup at Lusail Stadium.

Lionel Scalon’s side had drawn 3-3 with the Les Blues after 120 minutes.

Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick for France, while Messi netted a brace, and Angel di Maria scored a goal during the World Cup final clash.

In a tweet via his Twitter handle after the game, Owen also congratulated Argentina for winning the World Cup, describing the final match as incredible.

The former England international tweeted, “Congratulations Argentina. Incredible game. Surely the best ever final? Messi puts the top hat on an unbelievable career but spare a thought Mbappe, a hat trick in a World Cup final yet goes home empty handed.”
