Man Utd Treble winner Cole blows fuse over comparisons with Liverpool striker Nunez: Stop disrespecting my name

Manchester United Treble winner Andrew Cole is furious over social media comparisons with Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.

In the Carabao Cup defeat at Manchester City, Nunez squandered a couple of clear chances for the Reds, including one effort that was dragged wide of Stefan Ortega's post when it looked easier to score, as Jurgen Klopp's team crashed out of the competition against Pep Guardiola's men. After the game, some supporters compared the Uruguayan to United's former forward.

Having spotted the claims, Cole took to Twitter to defend himself.

"Cole... Nunez... Not sure where this nonsense started," the 51-year-old posted.

"But it is Christmas, the festival season... I am happily retired. Five Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, one League Cup, one Champions League, golden boot, Young Player of the Year.

"187 Premier League goals, one penalty. Life is what you make it."

One Twitter user who compared Nunez to Cole explained that his original tweet, which has since been deleted, was actually written with the aim of supporting Liverpool's striker and not criticising Cole's career. However, Cole was having none of it.

He responded: "Sorry Dave worded wrongly or rightly... People need to stop disrespecting my name because I don't play the game. Just a quiet guy getting on with life and people think they can disrespect me.

"Look at the numbers and compare them to anyone else."
