I gave him big hug – Arteta singles out one player after win over West Ham

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has singled out striker, Eddie Nketiah for praise after he scored a goal in the Gunners’ Premier League 3-1 win over West Ham United on Boxing Day.

Arteta said he was pleased with Nketiah’s performance for Arsenal against West Ham, adding that he just had to give him a big hug after the game.

According to him, Nketiah was outstanding against David Moyes’ side at the Emirates Stadium in the absence of Gabriel Jesus, who is currently recovering from injury.

Arteta watched as three goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Nketiah gave Arsenal the victory against the visitors.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Arteta said: “I just gave him a big hug because he totally deserved that with the way he played today. It was a typical Nketiah goal, it was an outstanding performance from him.

“You could feel in the last few games he was trying and did not score, but he has the capacity to – we saw it every game in training, and that will give him confidence. I’m pleased to see what he did today.

“Gabriel [Jesus] is still around the team still, and he is having an impact on the pitch even though he is not playing. He is helping Eddie.”
