EPL: You picked right moment, Arsenal players didn’t know – Arteta sends message to Wenger

Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta has sent a message to the club’s legendary manager, Arsene Wenger after he finally returned to the Emirates Stadium to watch their Premier League 3-1 win over West Ham United on Boxing Day.

Arteta thanked Wenger for visiting the North London club, adding that the Frenchman picked the right moment because Arsenal players did not know about his visits.

Wenger had not visited Arsenal since his departure back in 2018 following 22 years at the Premier League club.

The 73-year-old was treated to a stirring comeback as Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League table after beating West Ham.

Goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah gave Arteta’s side the victory over David Moyes’ men.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Arteta said: “Arsene [Wenger] picked the right moment. I thought the performance today was at the level he deserved.

“The players didn’t know. It was a special day, so thank you so much [to Wenger] for coming. Walking through the stadium, he’s going to feel what everyone thinks of him…he’s been such an influence.”
