EPL: Real reason Guardiola allowed Jesus, Sterling join Arsenal, Chelsea – Gary Neville

Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville has claimed he has been told why Manchester City allowed Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling join their domestic rivals in the summer.

Jesus moved to Arsenal, while Sterling signed for Chelsea last summer.

The two players had played prominent roles in their Premier League dominance under Pep Guardiola in recent seasons.

Neville has now said the arrival of Julian Alvarez is the reason Guardiola sanctioned moves for Jesus and Sterling.

Alavarez has enhanced his burgeoning reputation during Argentina’s run to the 2022 World Cup final.

“I was told a year ago when City let Jesus and Sterling go – because I was quite surprised that City let both go at the same time – that this kid [Alvarez] was the reason.

“Someone said that to me, that is quite close to City, that he was the reason and they didn’t want to block his path,” Neville said via Sky Sports’ World Cup podcast.
