Carabao Cup: Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards single out one player as Man City beat Liverpool

Former Premier League stars, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards have singled out youngster, Rico Lewis for praise following Manchester City’s Carabao Cup last-16 win over Liverpool on Thursday night.

Lewis was impressive for Man City as Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Liverpool 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to three goals from Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Ake.

Fabio Carvalho and Mohamed Salah did score for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Speaking after the game, Richards said on Sky Sports, “He [Lewis] was brilliant, the positions he was picking up, the way he pressed high and was getting on the ball, you know [Manchester] City like to have a third centre half then roam in midfield.

“I thought his decision-making was outstanding when to go when to drop off

“I watched him in the [UEFA] Champions League against Sevilla. For someone so young, a local lad, through the academy, I think he’s going to be a superstar.”

On his part, Richard’s fellow pundit, Carragher, said, “For a manager to put a young defender in, they will make mistakes at times, but you want them to cope physically.

“As a young player, he’ll improve experience-wise and gain maturity, but he showed he could compete physically with men’s football.”
