Ten Hag identified Real Madrid star to bring out best in Man Utd striker Ronaldo

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag had plans to build this season's attack around Cristiano Ronaldo, it has been revealed.

In the aftermath of Ronaldo's furious interview with Piers Morgan, the former editor of the News of he World, where the Portuguese lambasted Ten Hag, Okdiario is reporting the Dutchman sought to buy a strike partner for the veteran last summer.

Ten Hag had identified Vinicius Junior as the forward to play off Ronaldo this season and discussed moving for the Brazilian with United's board.

Ten Hag felt Vini Jr would bring the best out of Ronaldo, but with Real Madrid refusing to consider any offers for the attacker, the deal was shelved.

United and Ten Hag were forced to drop their plans not only due to Real's stand, but also due to having their hands full with Ronaldo's preseason antics.
