Marco Asensio U-turn on Real Madrid contract

Marco Asensio is ready to sign a new contract and stay with Real Madrid.

The midfielder was determined to leave the Bernabeu next summer on a free transfer, with Real unwilling to match the contract demands from the 26-year-old.

With Ascensio free to discuss terms with other clubs from January, there looked like being no movement between the parties before the transfer window. However, the Spanish international could now stay at the club.

Marca says the two sides are coming round to the idea of reopening negotiations, with a large factor in the matter being manager Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian boss is one of Asensio's biggest advocates and wants him to remain in Madrid.

Talks could continue after Asensio goes to the World Cup with Spain next month, and he will prioritise Real Madrid's offer before any other club. Madrid meanwhile, have been impressed with the Spaniard's willingness to fight for a place in the side and his acceptance of being a bit-part player so far this season.
